How long will I be in therapy?

Together, we will determine the length of therapy that's right for you.

Therapy depends on many factors unique to you, and the scope of your issues. Generally, you will sense when therapy has been successfully completed when you have overcome major issues in your life. You will notice that they have new energy, interest, and enthusiasm about other aspects of your life - as well as the confidence to tackle new challenges on your own.

Successful psychotherapy also depends on maintaining our momentum. When you attend regularly set sessions, we can usually progress faster than when our sessions are spread far-apart. You will find weekly sessions the most productive. Some people feel that bi-weekly, or twice-a-week sessions are the right pace for them.

What happens during the first session?

The first session is an informal assessment session where I will gain an idea of:

a) Your current life situation
b) Your childhood history
c) Feelings/thoughts at the moment
d) Emerging themes and patterns.

It is a two-way process, so it is also an opportunity for you to assess me and clarify any questions you have. I believe that 'fit' is incredibly important in our therapist/client relationship, so it's important for you to feel comfortable. You are in a non-judgemental and confidential environment.

How will I know if it's the "Right Fit?"

Great question!

Most studies show that the fit between the client and the therapist is very important for successful therapy. You are encouraged to take your time in choosing your therapist, and get the information you need to make your decision.

My style is empathic, intuitive, and interactive, and I tune into the client's strengths, talents, and potential. Try using our initial interview to ask the questions important to you, and to get a sense of what it feels like to work with me. I look forward to meeting with you!

I work from 9-5.  Can I come after working hours?

Yes, Kimberly recognizes that schedules can be complicated! There are several evening timeslots available each evening if you are unable to make a daytime appointment. Often, these are the first timeslots to be filled, so it's important to book in advance to ensure you receive the spot you wish.
