How can Psychotherapy Increase your Fertility?

As women, our bodies respond negatively to stress. It's important to consider your current life stressors:

a) Are you encountering family issues?
b) Are you in a troubled relationship?
c) Is your career too demanding/stressful?
d) Are your finances stressing you out?
e) Is there external pressure from your partner/in-laws/parents for you to become pregnant?

Can stress cause infertility? Yes. New studies prove that stress is a primary factor in predicting whether a woman will have the ability to conceive. In a recent study published by the Journal Study of Fertility and Sterility, researcher Alice Domar studied 184 women who had been trying to get pregnant for one to two years. Half were assigned to psychotherapy groups, while others -- the controls -- underwent no treatment or medical fertility treatments only.

Only 20 percent of the control group conceived, but about 55 percent of those in the psychotherapy groups became pregnant.

It's amazing, but not surprising that the psychotherapy fertility groups actually increased the fertility of the women who were involved.

Women who are looking to conceive naturally or through IVF should consider psychotherapy. Some women's therapy groups can be specifically aimed at fertility, and these are a wonderful way to meet other women and share a positive and healing experience.

If you or somebody you know is trying to conceive and is seeking psychotherapy, phone us to set up your first session. We look forward to receiving your call.
